FRIDAY NOTES FROM THE CHEVY TRUCKS U.S. SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY PARTS UNLIMITED AT THE MCGRAW INSURANCE INTERNATIONAL CLASSIC AT LAGUNA SECA, IN MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA

Course conditions: sunny, breezy, with temperatures in the high si xties.

Course length and characteristics: 2.238 mile, 11-turn road course. Riders at Laguna Seca Raceway experience an elevation change of 180 ft. over the length of the course. Turn three is the lowest point on the track, at 749 ft. above sea level. The entrance to turn eight (the "corkscrew" ) is the highest point on the track, at 929 ft. above sea level.

The Chevy Trucks U.S. Superbike race at Laguna Seca Raceway will be broadcast live on Speedvision, Saturday July 8, at 3:35 pm eastern time. 6:45pm - PRO HONDA OILS 600 SUPERSPORT - RACE - Jamie Hacking took his first win of the season for the factory Yamaha team. Hacking has landed on the podium at the last three races, taking third-place at Road America and second-place at the last series race at New Hampshire International Speedway. "My race was excellent," said Hacking. "I came into it with an aggressive attitude. I got a good start, then I noticed that Eric (Bostrom) was pulling away. So I got by Kurtis (Roberts), then tried to reel in Eric. I went through the lappers pretty good, I got by better than these guys (Bostrom and Hayden) did."

Factory Kawasaki rider Eric Bostrom took second-place today. Bostrom led most of the first half of the race, but was passed by Hacking in turn five. "The three of us were racing, and we ran into seven or eight lappers at a time," Bostrom said. "It totally changed the race."

Honda’s Nicky Hayden took third-place today, his first series podium of the season. The reigning series champ explained that he’s been frustrated with his Pro Honda Oil’s 600 SuperSport results, but has been focusing on his Superbike racing. "This is the first time I’ve had any results (in 600 SuperSport), it’s been kind of frustrating," said Hayden. "It’s like, what’s the difference between finishing in sixth or eighth when I know I’ve got a Superbike race later on. It’s not really worth hanging it out."

BUELL PRO THUNDER - RACE - HMC Ducati rider Shawn Conrad took his second win of the season today. The 1999 series champ took the lead after lap leader Tom Montano crashed in turn 11 with just two laps to go. Montano walked away from the crash. "It’s kind of bittersweet,’ said Conrad, "But I’ll take it."

Series point leader Jeff Nash took second-place today for the Advanced Motorsports Ducati team, staying on top of the point standings. Nash has yet to take a win, but has finished on the podium at every race to date. Asked about his outlook for the season and championship, Nash thanked his team and said, "We’ll stay consistent and keep working hard."

James Lickwar took his first career podium finish today for the FreeOhio Ducati team. Lickwar was happy for the finish, but indicated that his race career my be coming to a close. "This is my last race," said privateer racer Lickwar. "I may make it to Pikes Peak or Willow, but that’s about it."

5:00pm - CHEVY TRUCKS U.S. SUPERBIKE QUALIFYING -  Vance & Hines Ducati rider John Kocinski has pole for Saturday's Chevy Trucks U.S. Superbike Championship race. Kocinski captured the pole with a time of 1:26.026, surpassing Troy Corsers' World Superbike pole time of 1:26.237, but leaving Anthony Gobert's 1999 AMA Superbike track record of 1:25.507 still standing.

Honda's Nicky Hayden was second fastest and will take the number-two spot on the front row, with a time of 1:26.042. Yoshimura Suzuki rider Mat Mladin has the number-three spot on the front row with a time of 1:26.289, and his Suzuki teammate Aaron Yates has the last spot on the front row with a time of 1:26.332.

4:00pm - WORLD SUPERBIKE QUALIFYING -  Aprilia rider Troy Corser came back to post a fast qualifying lap time of 1:26.237. NCR Ducati's Ben Bostrom was second fastest with a time of 1:26.327. Castrol Honda rider Colin Edwards was third-fastest with a time of 1:26.557, and Infostrada Ducati's Troy Bayliss was fourth fastest with a time of 1:26.668.

3:10pm - CHEVY TRUCKS U.S. SUPERBIKE PRACTICE - Honda's Nicky Hayden set the World on its ear with a fast practice lap time of 1:26.532, bettering Troy Corser's World Superbike practice time of  1:27.283. Vance & Hines Ducati's John Kocinski was second fastest with a time of 1:26.638. Suzuki's Aaron Yates followed with a time of 1:27.206, and Honda ace Miguel Duhamel was fourth fastest with a time of 1:27.240. Reigning Chevy Trucks Superbike Champ Mat Mladin was fifth fastest with a time of 1:27.325on the Yoshimura Suzuki. AMA Superbike qualifying for Saturday's race will start at 4pm.

12:28pm - WORLD SUPERBIKE  PRACTICE - At the end of the session, it's Aprilia's Troy Corser with a time of 1:27.283, Ben Bostrom second-fastest with a time of 1:27.416, and Haga third-fastest with a time of 1:27.478.

12noon -WORLD SUPERBIKE  PRACTICE - with 15 minutes remaining in the session, Haga is fastest on the Yamaha with a time of 1:27.478, "Captain America," Ben Bostrom -- who has colored his hair red, white and blue this weekend -- is second fastest with a time of 1:27.544 on the NCR Ducati, and Ducati InfoStrada rider Juan Borja is third fastest with a time of 1:27.452. 11:50am - AMA Officials have announced that Superbike practice will be held from 12:45 to 1:45pm, and an abbreviated 30-minute qualifying session will be held at 3:50pm

11:25am -WORLD SUPERBIKE  PRACTICE - The World Superbike riders are currently practicing - at the moment Yamaha rider Noriyuki Haga is fastest with a time of 1:28.901, followed by Castrol Honda's Aaron Slight, with a time of  1:28.820. Ducati Corse rider Juan Borja is thord fastest with a time of 1:29.200.

11:15am -CHEVY TRUCKS U.S. SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY PARTS UNLIMITED, PRACTICE This morning's Superbike practice was red-flagged early in the session, when rider Jamie Bowman crashed in a single bike incident at the entrance to turn three. Bowman was transported to San Jose Medical center with a suspected closed head injury.

Prior to the red-flag, Harley-Davidson rider Scott Russell was fastest with a time of 1:33.175. AMA Pro Racing officials are working to reschedule Superbike practice amid the very tight schedule.
