1998 Mazda Truck Motocross Nationals Champions

Henry and Carmichael Wrap Up AMA/Mazda Truck Motocross Championships

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Yamaha's Doug Henry and Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider Ricky Carmichael clinched the championships in the 250cc and 125cc divisions of the AMA Mazda Truck Motocross Nationals in the Aug. 30 race at Broome-Tioga Sports Center in Binghamton N.Y. The 250cc title is a first for Henry, while Carmichael is celebrating back-to-back 125cc national titles.

Henry wrapped up the 250cc title with a 63-point lead and one race still left on the season schedule (the Sept. 6 season finale at Steel City Raceway in Delmont, Pa.). Henry became the first rider in history to win the title on a four-stroke motorcycle, taking overall wins at Washougal, Wash., Budds Creek, Md., and his hometown track of Southwick, Mass. He has also had four additional podium finishes, and has been in the top five at every 1998 race to date.

Over the course of his 10-year professional career, Henry has also collected the 1993 and 1994 125cc National Motocross championships and the 1993 125cc Eastern Region Supercross title.

Carmichael, meanwhile, ran rough-shod over the 125cc Mazda Truck Motocross Nationals field, winning eight of the 11 races so far to clinch the series title win one round to go. Carmichael also claimed the 1998 125cc Eastern Region Supercross title.
