At this time, it's not known if the event will be rescheduled. Friday night after the event was called I went home to my parents house, where I'm staying for the weekend. It poured the entire way. Saturday it rained on and off, but was dry Saturday. My buddy Steve and I were hanging at the famous Siebkens in Elkhart Lake. The place was packed with people and bikes and people looking at bikes. Although the dirt track didn't go off, you can plan on tuning back in to AMADirectlink for LIVE ONLINE COVERAGE from the 75th Anniversary AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days on July 9-11, then the MBNA Superbike Tour presented by Parts Unlimited stop at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course July 16-18, and coverage from the AMA Mazda Trucks Motocross Nationals stop at Kenworthy's Motocross Park on July 25. 7 The race has been postponed for Sunday afternoon. The main program will start around 1 p.m. Stay tuned to this web page for more news as it becomes available. 6:40 It continues to rain. We'll get some word on the race very soon. Stay tuned. . . :( 6:20 Here's some photos for you. The weather's turned nasty! It's very dark and we've got some big boomers. Based on radar, it looks as though more storm clouds are moving in. I'll keep you as updated as I can. Yep, it's raining right now. All together now, please cross your fingers and toes. 5:35 I got some pretty decent shot of practice. As soon as I'm done with this, I'll upload those. I also talked with Bill Werner and J.R. Schnabel. Tonight's program has been moved around a bit for threat of the forecasted thunderstorms. The entire Grand National program will be run first. Six heats, four semis, then the main event. Then the entire Harley-Davidson Sportster Performance program goes off: Four heats and the main. The idea is to get in the Grand National racing first. More on weather developments as they happen. . . 4:15 Okay, here's something to keep you occupied. The weather looks a bit better. Everything's a go. I'm off to talk with some racers and get some more photos and videos. But first, I've got to catch a snack. How does a Sheboygan Johnsonville Brat sound. A single for $1.50. Nice. It's good to be home. Everyone's raving about them. Videos: A look at the short-track (192K) | Local sprint cars went out to pack down the surface (200K) Friday - 3:30 p.m. (Central time) It's hot, and it's muggy; typical for these parts. If we were just a bit closer to The Lake (Michigan, that is). . . Anyway, it's sunny right now, which is a good thing. However, we're all watching the weather. My browser's set to a time lapsed doppler rader for the Midwest, and we're keeping our fingers and toes crossed. Right now I'm set up in the AMA Pro Racing Dirt Track trailer. I've got power, phone line (thanks to Al Sumner, event promoter), and a small desk area. Not bad really. In fact, the trailer's even got A/C, although it's working pretty hard right now to cool this big tin can. I got some photos of the pits and riders meeting, a video too. That stuff's coming very soon. Stay tuned. . . Thursday - 2:15 p.m. Welcome to AMADirectlink's special coverage of the AMA Grand National Dirt Track Series presented by Drag Specialties event at Plymouth, Wisc. It's the first-ever AMA Grand National event at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds, and I (Matt Ringlien, AMA webmaster) will be covering the event with photos, videos, interviews and insights. I grew up just down I-43 in Cedar Grove, so I'm warning you right now that gratuitous blurts of Wisconsin Pride will pop up ocassionally, alright hey? Although the forecast looks 50/50 as of Thursday afternoon, hopefully the weather will hold. More Friday afternoon. | GO TO TOP | | |||
