About AMA Pro Racing

AMA Pro Racing is the leading national sanctioning body for professional motorcycle sport in the world.

A for-profit subsidiary of the 265,000-member-plus American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), AMA Pro Racing was formed in 1995 to respond to the rising popularity and tremendous growth of motorcycle racing in America. The formation of a separate company with a separate Board of Directors and management staff allowed the AMA to continue its focus on government relations, pursuing, protecting and promoting the interests of motorcycle enthusiasts, membership growth and other issues. AMA Pro Racing concentrates exclusively on the business and complexities of professional motorcycle racing.

Rights to the most successful national championship series are managed by AMA Pro Racing. Those series are: AMA Supercross Series, AMA Superbike Championship, AMA Motocross Championship and AMA Flat Track Championship. AMA Pro Racing’s successful management of these series dates back several decades. AMA Pro Racing’s newest series, the AMA Supermoto Championship began in 2003 and was an immediate success attracting top-level riders, teams and sponsor support.

For these series, AMA Pro Racing sanctions and manages the operations of nearly 100 professional racing events annually through its 27 full time employees and dozens of part-time employees and volunteers. As the sanctioning body, AMA Pro Racing makes and enforces the sporting and technical rules for competition, creates the class structure for races, and determines rider eligibility.

AMA Pro Racing also manages the commercial development of its series, securing sponsorships, negotiating television packages, exploring new markets for racing and planning for the long-term success of the sport by attracting more fans and sponsors. AMA Pro Racing manages the rights and distribution for motorcycle racing television coverage for AMA Superbike, AMA Motocross, AMA Flat Track and AMA Supermoto. In 2006 AMA Pro Racing events will be televised to over 100 million households via leading cable and satellite networks both in the U.S. and in key international markets worldwide.

AMA Pro Racing’s vision is for it to continue to be the premier provider of motorcycle racing in the United States. The organization’s goal is to provide a fair and stable environment for competitors while managing the commercial development of the sport in a manner that continuously improves the economic growth opportunity for all stakeholders.

AMA Pro Racing headquarters are located in the Columbus, Ohio suburb of Pickerington. Additionally, AMA Pro Racing maintains an office in Los Angeles, California to respond to the expanding needs of the motorcycle industry and racing community.
