AMA MBNA 250 GRAND PRIX SERIES - CLASS & QUALIFYING

For racers and fans whose tastes run toward the specialized equipment of World Championship Grand Prix racing, AMA Pro Racing offers the AMA 250 Grand Prix Series. The Grand Prix class features 250cc twin-cylinder motorcycles built by Japanese and European companies expressly for high-speed road racing. Popular marques in this class include Yamaha, Honda and the Italian Aprilia.

Typical machines have 250cc liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder two-stroke engines. The class also allows for single-cylinder four-stroke engines of unlimited displacement, twin-cylinder four-strokes up to 500cc and air-cooled, twin-cylinder two-stroke machines up to 430cc.

Qualifying procedure:
Heat races are used to determine the starting grid for the Grand Prix final race. The winner of the fastest heat is the pole position winner. Riders are then arranged on the final race grid alternately, based on their performance in heat races #1 and #2.

The Grand Prix final race is 60 kilometers in length.
