A brief explanation of AMA Supercross and Motocross qualifying procedures follows. Check AMA Pro Racing Rulebook for complete qualifying rules and details. Supercross: For both 125cc and 250cc classes: seeding of riders will be based on final series points rankings from previous event. Top 10 ranked riders and previous champions are not required to enter Saturday afternoon pre-qualifying Choice of starting positions for seeded riders will be determined by series point rankings. Remaining starting positions will be determined by lottery. 125cc Class: Heats 1 & 2 (20 riders) are 6 laps. Finish positions 1-9 from each heat advance to main event. Finish positions 10 - 20 go to Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). LCQ is 4 laps. Finish positions 1-4 advance to main event for a starting gate of 22 riders. 250cc Class: Heats 1 & 2 are 8 laps (20 riders). Finish positions 1-4 advance to main event. Finish positions 5-20 go to Semi-qualifiers (2). 250cc Semis 1 & 2 are 6 laps. Finish positions 1-5 advance to main event. Finish positions 6-16 from each semi go to LCQ. LCQ is 6 laps, finish positions 1-2 advance to main. Final Races: 125cc: 22 riders, 15 lap main event. 250cc: 20 riders, 20 lap main event Motocross: For both 125cc and 250cc classes: seeding of riders will be based on final series points rankings from previous event. Remaining starting positions will be determined by lottery. Saturday schedule: Pre-Qualifiers: top 50 finishers in each class advance to Sunday qualifiers. Seeded riders are not required to pre-qualify.
Sunday schedule: Top 20 seeded riders and 50 riders from Saturday pre-qualifiers enter Sunday qualifying for each class. Multiple qualifiers are held until starting lineup of 40 riders for each class is filled. Final Race: 40 riders in main event for each class: finals for both classes are 30 minutes, plus two laps.
