SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Sept. 1, 2016) - Richie Morris Racing will feature a new rider line-up for this weekend’s Springfield Mile as Mikey Martin will join Shayna Texter as AMA Pro Flat Track makes an encore visit to the one-mile oval circuit.

Sunday’s action will kick off with a 12:00 PM rider autograph session, with the Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines main event set to go green at 3:50 PM.

Martin won the 2011 GNC2 championship and has multiple main event appearances to his credit. He will help the team continue to develop the in-house built chassis by providing added data and feedback for the squad. Martin steps in as Cory Texter, who made four AMA Pro starts with RMR this season, returns to focus on his eponymous team full-time.

“Cory did an awesome job for us on the bike,” said team principle Richie Morris. “Having a second rider doubles how much feedback we can get about the bike and I am glad to have Mikey (Martin) help us continue that this weekend. We are focused on what data we can generate to apply to our 2017 program, and we are looking forward to sharing some news about that after this weekend!”

The visit to the Springfield Mile, a long-held Labor Day tradition for the AMA Pro Flat Track ranks, is one that Shayna Texter has been looking forward to. The high-speed track has been the site of some strong runs for the rider, who carries support from McElroy Packaging, Tucker Rocky and Roland Sands Design.

“Shayna had her best-ever GNC1 finish here at Springfield (10th in the final), so we are hoping we can have that kind of day again on Sunday,” said Morris. “We are looking forward to having Mikey join us and having a really productive run this weekend.”

Martin has scored a GNC1 Dash for Cash win and sat on the pole in the 2015 AMA Pro Flat Track visit to his home Sacramento track, and is eager for his opportunity to return to AMA Pro action.

“I want to thank Richie Morris for the opportunity to ride for him and RMR,” said Martin. “I went from having nothing to ride to riding for a top team overnight, so I couldn’t be happier! I am also excited to have Willie McCoy (multi-time Springfield Mile race winner) with me as a mentor and mechanic—hopefully his knowledge will help us get to the front.”

The race is slated to be streamed live at fanschoice.tv
