Elkhart Lake, WI - June 1, 2014 – Just like on Saturday, Yamaha YZF-R6 riders swept the podium in Sunday’s AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race at Road America. RoadRace Factory Yamaha’s Jake Gagne won the race, Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha’s JD Beach was second, and Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Dane Westby was third.
After the race, JD said, “It feels good to get second here at Road America, but it would feel even better if I’d won. Jake rode a great race and pulled a pretty big gap on Dane and me. I’m glad to be on the podium. My team and I are improving with each race, so I’m really happy with our progress.”
JD’s teammate Garrett Gerloff, who was second in Saturday’s race, unfortunately went down hard on the opening lap of Sunday’s race. The 18-year-old Texan received medical attention at the scene, and the initial diagnosis was that he had sustained a concussion. He was taken to St. Agnes Hospital in nearby Fond du Lac for a CAT scan, and the results were negative so Garrett will be able to travel home on Monday.
The Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha team will be back in action on June 21-22 for round three of the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike racing season at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL.
