DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 21, 2013) – Last year, during the AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles Main Event at PMC Race Park in Peoria, Ill., Gerit Callies was involved in an on-track mishap that caused him to miss the rest of the 2012 AMA Pro Flat Track season. After a long off-season that consisted of balancing a rigorous workout routine with the appropriate amount of rest, Callies is back on his motorcycle and ready to take on the upcoming season full throttle, beginning in Daytona.
“I honestly feel good going in to the 2013 season, to be healthy and ready to roll at this point is all I can ask for considering the circumstances,” said Callies. “The incident at Peoria was a big wakeup call for me but it won’t stop me from giving it my all every time they roll the trucks off and we get to racing. I’m here for the long-haul and plan on bringing the same amount of intensity that I’ve continued to bring throughout my career.”
Before the incident, Callies was having an impeccable season in AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles competition. Going into Peoria, the South Dakota native was leading in the points with several dominating performances. Through only eight races, Callies was able to pick up one pole, five top-five finishes and clinch three wins. Look for the young phenom to be among the front of the pack come Race 1 at Daytona.
The entire AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles class in 2013 makes up arguably the deepest and most talented field of young riders the sport has ever seen in quite some time. From defending champion Stephen Vanderkuur aiming to defend his title, to Jake Shoemaker, Jason Isennock, Dominic Collindres, and three time victor in 2012 Shayna Texter, young Gerit Callies will have his hands full all season long with the elite competition that surrounds him.
