AMA Prostar Diamond
PowerSports World Finals to Air on SPEED AMA Prostar press release
AMA/Prostar, the drag racing arm
of the American Motorcyclist Association Sports Division,
announced recently that the one hour broadcast of the November
11-13, 2005 Diamond PowerSports World Finals will air on SPEED
TV, Sunday, December 4th at 3:00pm ET. The show will re-air on
Tuesday, Dec. 6th at 3:00am and 1:00pm, and Friday, Dec. 23rd at
4:00am.
The AMA/Prostar World Finals is considered the most prestigious
event in all of motorcycle drag racing, and has been searching
for a broadcast home for much of its 15-year heritage. In 2004,
the organization took a step to the line when it announced that
the entire season would be broadcast on the Outdoor Channel, and
a 30-minute show would highlight the World Finals on ESPN2.
After receiving feedback from our viewers, fans, and racers, all
thought the programming was fresh as well as compelling. The
main point being that we were not reaching the market share that
we had hoped for... and this didn't deliver the coverage we
promised our fans."
"This first step with the [2004 TV Season] was instrumental in
preparing AMA/Prostar and its racers for what it would take to
produce and deliver an entertaining TV Package," says Keith
Kizer, president of AMA/Prostar.
With that feedback in mind, as well as the insight from the 2004
programming core sponsor, Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A. , Kizer
spent the off-season shopping networks for a broader-based
coverage. "I knew what we had to do, and the decision was
tough," he says. "We could buy in for entire series coverage on
a smaller network again or we could make sure we got something
on the best network, and that would be 100% Speed Channel." The
choice was a jump forward rather than backwards for Kizer. "Our
market share for the World Finals alone on SPEED Channel in a
weekend daytime time slot, will expose us to with more current
fans, and bring in more new fans than we could have ever
expected from many years of full coverage on smaller networks".
Kizer credits Chet Burks of Chet Burks Productions for authoring
the plan, presenting it to SPEED. Burks and his Marietta GA,
based company are primarily known for their work with the AMA
Superbike road racing series and AMA Motocross events. In the
agreement, they will handle filming of the AMA Prostar events as
well.
