AMA Red Bull Supermoto Championship registration
information
Applications to participate in the 2003 AMA Red
Bull Supermoto Championship are available on AMA Pro Racing's
website at www.amaproracing.com/ridersonly.
Teams and riders interested in the series should log on and
click the "Forms" link at the top of the page. Current
AMA Pro Racing license holders have been sent competition forms
by mail. Anyone else interested in the series should access the
information online.
AMA Pro Racing Associate Director of Commercial
Development Chris Bradley states this is the first step for
anyone wishing to participate in this all-new AMA championship.
"As we have said, the AMA Red Bull Supermoto Championship
will break new ground in its overall presentation. From the look
and feel of the races to various aspects of the competition
format, we are approaching this series differently. Instructions
on sign-up, how to apply for an AMA Pro Racing license and the
differences between this competition format and other AMA Pro
Racing championships are explained by visiting this site,"
said Bradley.
The AMA Red Bull Supermoto Championship is AMA
Pro Racing's newest championship series and was introduced at
Daytona in early March. Supermoto is a unique form of motorcycle
competition that includes both paved and dirt sections in the
course. Top riders have committed to participating in the series
with the inaugural event taking place the weekend of July 11-13
at the Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca in conjunction with the
AMA/World Superbike event.
"Interest in this championship has been
overwhelming," says Bradley. "Many riders have already
contacted us wanting to know how to get involved. When you
launch a new series with sponsors like Red Bull and KTM, a
complete TV package and rider participation that includes
current and former national and international champions, you are
definitely on the right track."
Each round of the series will be televised on the
Outdoor Life Network. Energy drink maker Red Bull North America
and KTM Sportmotorcycles USA have signed on as sponsors.
Bradley points out that AMA Pro Racing will adopt
a team-oriented approach for the series. This will ensure a more
functional relationship between AMA Pro Racing and its
stakeholders. Individual riders can participate by simply
organizing as a team. "This is another example of how AMA
Pro Racing is taking a leadership role in the management of its
various racing properties," says Bradley.
Supermoto Participants Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be considered a team if I am a rider
and the team owner?
Yes. A rider also owning the team is considered a
team and must complete a Team Participation Agreement. In fact,
every rider participating in AMA Supermoto will be considered
affiliated with a Team. Due to the format of the Team
Championship, we strongly encourage single rider/owners teams to
"team up" with one or more other single rider/teams to
create a two person team to reap the benefits.
There are two versions of the rider license
application, as a rider which one do I fill out?
If you hold a current 2003 AMA Pro Racing license
in Road Race, Flat Track, Supercross, Motocross or Hillclimb,
you need to complete the "Short Form". If you do not
hold a 2003 AMA Pro Racing license, you need to fill out the
license application labeled "Long Form".
I had a Pro license in 2002 but didn't
renew for 2003. Can I still get a Supermoto License?
Yes. You can obtain a license by completing the
Long Form Application, including the eligibility section.
If I am a team owner, what do I need to do?
Complete a Team Participation Agreement and
Application for Competition Number(s), pre-enter your riders via
the Team Entry Forms available online, and complete a Team
Manager credential application.
Can I purchase a Supermoto license at the
event?
No. It is our company's policy that we do not
issue licenses on-site at any AMA Pro Racing events.
Can my team post-enter at each qualifying
round?
Post entries will be accepted at each of the five
qualifying rounds providing you possess a 2003 Supermoto license
prior to post-entering. You will need to complete the
appropriate paperwork at the event, which includes a team
application, purchase a number plate from AMA Pro Racing if
necessary, and pay a larger fee than those who pre-enter.
What does my mechanic need to do?
Crew Member applications are available online. If
the Crew Member currently holds a 2003 AMA Pro Racing crew
member license in one of the other disciplines, he or she only
need to complete the two-page application and submit the
appropriate fees. If they are not currently licensed, they will
need to complete the application as well as submit an original
annual participant release, one recent passport photo and the
appropriate fees.
How does an individual win a championship
under this format?
An AMA championship will be awarded to an
individual rider in all classes. Riders will qualify for the Las
Vegas championship round (winner takes all format) based on
accumulated points from the five qualifying rounds leading up to
the finale. After the five qualifying rounds are completed, the
top 75 riders in points from each class will be eligible to
compete in the finale. The winner of the final round will be
crowned champion.
The second championship is a Team Championship.
The Team Championship will be based on aggregate points from
each team's top two finishing riders at the six events scheduled
for 2003.
How are Competition Numbers assigned?
Competition numbers will be assigned to each team
based on their requests submitted on the "Team
Participation Agreement and Application for Competition Number(s)".
Priority will be given to those who meet the May 30, 2003
deadline on the form. Past champions riding for AMA Supermoto
teams in 2003 will also receive priority numbering assuming they
meet the deadline. Should two past champions request the same
competition number in 2003, a random lottery will be conducted
to assign the competition number. The form allows the team to
provide a first and second choice for competition number(s).
Who is responsible for filling out the
pre-entry form and who will receive purse money?
Team Owners/Managers are responsible for
submitting Pre-entry forms. Any changes and/or correspondence
regarding Riders and the Team must be made by the Team Owner or
designated Team Manager. Purse and championship bonus monies
will be paid directly to the Team Owner. It is up to the Team
Owner to determine how funds are distributed to the riders.
How do I obtain the special number plates
required for each class?
AMA Pro Racing recommends you purchase your
Number Plate from DeCal Works by calling 800-843-8244. DeCal
Works has agreed to produce the plates for a nominal fee, and
will place your last name and competition number on the plate
for you. Other vendors have been supplied the appropriate
artwork as well. The specifications and design are also
available online at www.amaproracing.com
by clicking on the AMA Supermoto logo.
