Cory West - Off-Season Update
NEWS February 24, 2012
So it's been awhile since I've blogged to everyone but I've had a pretty action packed off season! I was fortunate enough to have some time off after the holidays and great weather back home to put in some good miles on my bicycles. Between the push bikes and riding my 100, I stayed pretty occupied through the cold months.
So far, this February has been the busiest I've had in years past. I got a call from Dave McGrath from AMA Pro to come down and do a track inspection at the new NOLA circuit in New Orleans, which was awesome to get a first hand look at things while they're still in the construction phase of things. Overall the track looked amazing and only needed a few very minor things done to it for it to be ready for motorcycles to hit the track. Right after I did the track inspection I headed over to Conroe, Texas for a fun filled week of Colin Edwards' Texas Tornado Boot Camp (TTBC)!
This was my second visit to TTBC and I was super pumped to keep working on my skills set and to try and close the gap from me to the full time instructors! One of my fellow competitors from the Daytona SportBike class was there as well ,Tommy Aquino, so that made things a little extra competitive. I'm pretty sure everything we did was as competitive as one of our AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike races, whether it be ping pong, mini bikes, or shooting guns. The camp was a 7 day racer camp but unfortunately I could only stay for 5 days. It was a great time though, and I have to thank Colin and the whole staff for inviting me back down to TTBC!
When I left Colin's I headed right back to NOLA for a Tracktactics two day track day. It was awesome to go from 5 days of mini bike riding and then immediately start applying what I learned at the camp to my race bike. It was also great to get to turn some laps on a brand spankin' new race track! The NOLA circuit was everything I thought it would be from what I saw at the inspection and I'm so pumped that we have a new track on the AMA schedule. The track is fast, wide, safe, and super smooth. I can't wait to go back for the Big Kahuna season finale in October!
I had a few days to do some laundry after the NOLA track day, and then it was off to Indianapolis for the big Indy Dealer Expo. I had a great time at Indy meeting and greeting with new and old sponsors and I'm really anxious to get back on the racetrack and represent everyone that's helping out the Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki program this year!
Now it's back home to put in as much training as possible so I can be lean and mean for the Daytona 200 in 3 weeks time. I'm going to do whatever I can to make up for that .027 that I missed out on winning it last year! Hope to see you at the "World Center of Racing"!!!
