(Aug. 1, 2012) - My first introduction to roadracing was at Laguna Seca when I was only 9 years old. I was still riding a Yamaha PW80 at the time but the look, sound and smell of being at Laguna made me want to be one of those lightning fast heroes!
It was the first year of the return of MotoGP to America and my dad and I have attended the race every year since it started again and every year my dad assured me that one day I would line up on this track to race. It is amazing to think that the time had come this past weekend.
My results were very good I thought? The best so far this year qualifying 13th on the grid, finishing in 15th after saving a highside on the first lap and clawing my way back from 22nd to 15th by the end of the race with a personal best lap of 1:31.3 on a track that I had only ever ridden once 2 years ago! The opportunity to fulfill my dream was what was most important to me. To look at the faces in the crowd and see so many friends and fans of me and the sport in general is something I will never forget.
I was also asked to attend two different Q&A sessions for the fans by AMA Pro Racing which only added to the excitement of the weekend. We did something special I thought, handing out some autographed, Arlen Ness kneepucks. The crowd loved it and it made me feel good to know that the items and my interviews were appreciated.
My thanks go out to Dynojet, Diablo Racing Technology, Track Tactics, Applied Powdercoat and all of my other sponsors for helping me to fulfill a dream! My parents have supported me and along with my little brother Gage, have stuck with me through all the ups and downs so far this season. It was an honor to race my fellow competitors on this historic track to a world audience and now my sites are set to return one day on a factory machine to run with the best in the world!
Thank you AMA Pro Racing, MotoGP and Laguna Seca.
