DNA Energy Drink/CnR Motorsports Team leaves Round Nine at New Jersey Motorsports Park with mixed feelings.
NEWS September 8, 2010
Millville, N.J. (September 8, 2010) - Heading into the weekend, the team was paying close attention not only to the track, but also to the impending hurricane headed towards the area. Luckily Hurricane Earl only made a brief appearance at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) on Friday. Friday’s practice and first round qualifying sessions were only slightly impaired due to some rainfall and strong winds.
No. 25 Rider, Joey Pascarella, set the fastest time for Friday’s qualifying session, which put him on the provisional pole leading into Saturday. Riders Bobby Fong and Michael Beck didn’t have the same luck as their teammate. Beck qualified 13th and Fong ninth for the first of two qualifying sessions. After some changes to both bikes overnight, Fong was able to improve his time which put him starting Saturday’s race in the seventh position and Beck also improved his time but stayed in 13th position.
Pascarella also improved his time in Saturday morning’s qualifying session with a 1.24.358 which was just about two seconds over the AMA Pro SuperSport rider in second. Incredibly, this would have put him on the second row for the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL class, which he will compete in next season after already winning this year’s AMA Pro SuperSport West Championship. “I just put my head down and went for it,” stated Pascarella. “I want to be back on top of the box.”
In race one on Saturday, Pascarella put his DNA Energy Drink/CnR Motorsports bike on top where it belongs. “I got a great start and just took off, I looked back once or twice and saw I had a nice gap,” says Pascarella. At one point Pascarella had over a ten second gap in front of second place.
“Joey really impressed the team this weekend, not only with his win but also with his efforts during qualifying,” said Team Owner, Robbie Roberson. “Joey was winning races before he joined our team mid-season and I know how badly he wanted to be back up front and winning again. Our crew has worked really hard to give Joey a bike he could feel comfortable with and win on. I guess it has finally worked out!”
Race One for AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Riders Bobby Fong and Michael Beck was nothing short of exciting. After getting a great start Fong was able to jump right up front with the lead pack and start battling for the top position. Beck was in the process of working his way up towards the front when another rider crashed on the front straight causing a red flag. During the red flag, the DNA Energy Drink/CnR Motorsports team made sure the bikes were ready for the restart. Fong didn’t get the start he had hoped for but was still up front in the lead pack. Fong finished the race in fourth place while his teammate Beck finished in 11th. This isn’t the result I wanted but I will deal with the fourth for now,” stated Fong. “I hope to finish on the box tomorrow and get another win for myself and the team.”
Sunday wasn’t the best day for the DNA Energy Drink/CnR Motorsports Team, starting with Pascarella in the AMA Pro SuperSport class. Pascarella got a great start and by lap two had taken the lead and was building a nice gap. But a few laps later Pascarella had a small crash. It took a minute or two but he picked his bike back up and rejoined the race. Pascarella crossed the line in 12th place. “I’m not too stoked about my race today, but luckily I am not racing for points right now,” said Pascarella.
Unfortunately, the bad luck carried on into the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Race for Fong. Race two was nothing short of exciting, with ten riders battling for the top position. Fong was involved with the ten-rider battle until the last lap when he collided with another rider. Luckily he was able to get back on track and finish the race in seventh place. Meanwhile, Beck had a battle of his own mid pack and secured himself another nice top ten finish, taking ninth place.
We are looking forward to turning our luck around in the last round of the AMA Pro Road Racing series September 24th-26th at Barber Motorsports Park.
