(March 22, 2012) - KATRA racing teamed up with SGA and Venezuelan rider Robertino Pietri for the 2012 Daytona 200. When asked about the overall experience of Daytona, team owner Kat Zimpel said, “We had a very interesting story coming here, Robertino’s father Roberto Pietri raced Dayton in 1983. Tino is a 2nd generation Venezuelan following in his fathers footsteps and which is something that KATRA racing wanted to be a part of. We had a solid Graves Yamaha for this race with SGA as a partner. It wasn’t the fastest bike on the track but with 57 laps there’s so much more that goes into it than just having the fastest bike on the track. After a couple days we felt good about the set up on our R6 and on Saturday, we were ready. I wish we could have had more time on the bike so we could have done a little more homework. Thursday and Friday we were setting the bike up and practicing with our pit crew for the pit stops. Even the best teams mess up at the 200 so we really focused on great pit stops, you have to be calm, there’s a lot of things happening at one time. If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong at Daytona so we prepared as much as we could in a short period of time. I was very happy with our Crew Chief James Lickwar and Robertino Pietri who is much more mature than the last time he raced here back in 2009. Robertino was pulling double duty with the AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike race, but did very well for us with a 12th place finish after 57 laps. I learned so much this year and we’re already planning for a return to Daytona next year.”
