Tooele, UT (May 27, 2012) – Compared with yesterday, track conditions improved today in final qualifying for AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike. Two-time reigning champion Josh Hayes took full advantage and improved on his provisional-pole-setting time to secure his fourth pole position of the season and remain perfect this year in qualifying on his #1 crossplane-crankshaft Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R1.
On the 8th of the 17 laps he ran, Josh turned a 1:49.729, which is the fastest any AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike rider has circulated on the 3.05-mile, 15-turn road course.
“I was looking forward to today’s final qualifying and hoping for a dry track and a little less wind than yesterday,” Josh said. “We got our wish, and I was able to get down to business. My crew gave me a great bike, and the Dunlop tires were awesome. We’re ready for tomorrow’s race, and I can’t wait.”
Josh Herrin, who rides the #2 Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha R1, will start on the second row for tomorrow’s SuperBike race. He’s hoping to pull another one of his trademark holeshots to move himself up as soon as the race goes green at 4:00 PM MST in Memorial Day.
