Birmingham, AL (June 23, 2012) – Earning his fifth pole position in as many tries this season, Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha rider Josh Hayes earned another valuable championship bonus point, and he’ll start on the front row with his teammate Josh Herrin right next to him.
Both Josh’s took advantage of the morning session’s slightly cooler temperatures to improve on their lap times from yesterday’s provisional qualifying where Josh Hayes also notched the fastest time on Friday.
“Cooler is a bit of a misnomer, but the temps were a few degrees lower than yesterday, and it helped me go a little bit faster,” said Josh. “This afternoon’s race conditions are going to be more like yesterday’s provisional qualifying, and I think we’ve got a good setup for that. It’s going to be a hot race, for sure.”
Josh Herrin, rider of the #2 Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha R1, applied some helpful teamwork in this morning’s final qualifying session as he tucked in behind the two-time reigning AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Champion, and it paid off. Working together, Hayes and Herrin earned tandem positions on the front row.
Josh Herrin commented, “I worked with Josh a little bit in that session, and it helped. My breakout race in 600 was here in 1998, so I’m going to try to repeat history.”
SuperBike Race 1 is scheduled for this afternoon at 3:15 CST, and SuperBike Race 2 will go green on Sunday at 3:30 PM CST.
