UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio (September 11, 2012) - Team Ohio Racing and Twisted Speed Racing ‘s Aaron Borello continued the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Alumni crew concept at the American Red Cross Devil’s Showdown presented by Team ProMotion, August 7-9. In support of the #911 Air Ground Xpress Harley-Davidson XR1200 entry at New Jersey Motorsports Park, the WWP Alumni crew got hands on experience and was fully integrated into the team for the event. Pete Cline, Team Ohio Racing’s owner and rider, was unable to compete on his #26 XR1200 due to injuries sustained at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in August.
“Team Ohio Racing’s Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Alumni crew concept continued on in New Jersey and the#911 Air Ground Xpress Harley-Davidson XR1200 got a first rate crew for the weekend” stated Cline. “As we’ve experienced in the past two events, these warriors were active and enthusiastic and jumped with both feet into the action: they changed wheels, fueled the Twisted Speed Racing XR1200, worked the pit board... they had a great time and a unique experience.”
Cline went on to add “We are learning as we move along in this program. At New Jersey we had 2 WWP Alumni, and that was a good ratio of warriors to bike. The #911 bike had some mechanical issues during the weekend and Aaron and his crew chief, Scott Rosey, appreciated the extra hands. We also experimented with video documentation on the crews experiences. We’ll go through the footage, hopefully post it on our webpage and continue to make this a great experience for the warriors. We are not sure about Miami or NOLA, but we do know we are seriously looking at full time 2013 program working with the WWP in AMA Pro Racing’s Harley-Davidson Vance & Hines XR1200 series.”
Lt Col Wasserman, US Army retired, who crewed for the team added, “I had a wonderful time this weekend. I know more about motor bikes than I ever thought I would. The whole experience was outstanding and definitely worthwhile. It's an exciting event and it's a kick to be on the GRID at the start of the race. Thanks for the adventure.”
Borello commented "This weekend was an incredible experience for me. My normal crew was not available and having Rich (Wasserman) and Sam (Torres) in the pits was a huge help!” “We definitely had a challenging weekend when we discovered lots of side-to-side movement at my swing arm pivot area. We ended up working on the bike until 11:30pm Saturday night in the rain and low light. Sunday’s race ended up being another challenge as the bike wouldn't consistently rev over 5,500 rpm's due to an electrical issue that we have now resolved”, Borello continued. I would feel privileged to have the Wounded Warriors as part of my crew anytime. The guys were very engaged in the weekend and were a tremendous help”!
