DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 16, 2013) – Martin Cardenas is currently en route to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for his first and only full round of testing before Round 2 of GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing is set to take place at Road America on May 31-June 1, 2013. The two-time GoPro Daytona SportBike champion graduated to the National Guard SuperBike ranks this past offseason and didn’t miss a beat as he dominated Round 1 at Daytona International Speedway with one convincing win and one second-place finish.

“We just want to continue to improve on what we worked on this past offseason, which was mainly focusing on getting the engine and suspension as close to perfect as possible,” said Peter Doyle. “The test in Las Vegas will be a way for Martin and our team to play with different settings and get more comfortable as a whole.”

Doyle was asked about how Cardenas and the rest of his crew planned on fending off the daunting Yamaha squad which includes a win-hungry Josh Hayes and an up-and-coming Josh Herrin during Round 2 at Road America. “Hayes has nothing to lose. I have no doubt that he will come out swinging and he’s going to be very tough as he’s hard to beat anywhere. Both of those guys have a tremendous amount of ability and we have a lot of respect for them. We believe Road America is one of the finest tracks in the country as far as the layout goes. Between the altitude change, the chicanes and the long straights, it’s an amazing course and we’re excited to get out there and compete.”

Although tomorrow will mark the first full day of testing for Cardenas, the Colombian product did put in a half-day’s worth of practice at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway last weekend to knock some of the rust off from the extended layover. Look for Cardenas, mounted on his No. 36 Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000, to bring his best efforts to Elkhart Lake, Wis. in less than two weeks when the series is set to commence at Road America for the Subway SuperBike Doubleheader on May 31-June 2, 2013.
