DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 20, 2013) – What better way to celebrate your 16th birthday than to compete in your very first professional motorcycle race? An intriguing storyline heading into this weekend’s GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing festivities is the arrival of Kaleb De Keyrel, a kid from Minnesota who didn’t waste any time acquiring eligibility to contend in AMA Pro Racing after his 16th birthday earlier this month.
Kaleb will ride a No. 51 Yamaha YZF-R6 and is entered to compete in AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport this weekend at Baber Motorsports Park for the Triumph SuperBike Classic presented by America’s First Federal Credit Union. Though it will be his first ever professional race of any kind, Kaleb has competed against some of GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing’s more talented riders in the past during amateur structured events.
“I’m just going into this weekend knowing it’s my first pro race and expecting to have a blast doing what I love,” said Keyrel. “I tested here earlier this year and was happy with the times that we were able to produce. Stepping up to the AMA Pro Racing level is obviously a huge step in my career and I’m excited to see what the future holds. I’m a little nervous but I’m definitely more excited than anything. I turned 16 the day after Road America and honestly I would have made that event my debut if my birthday had just come a little earlier.”
Kaleb enters a field of young and talented riders who all seem to race with a chip on their shoulder every weekend. So far in 2013, it has been Motosport.com’ s Stefano Mesa and RoadRace Factory’s Tomas Puerta that has represented a Colombian powerhouse that’s given the rest of the Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport field all they can handle. National Guard/Celtic Racing’s Corey Alexander emerged at Road America earlier this month with a clean sweep, winning both races in exhilarating fashion. Look for Kaleb De Keyrel this weekend as he attempts to make a name for himself early on in his young career against Mesa, Puerta, Alexander and the rest of the win-hungry Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport lineup he will be competing against.
