DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 13, 2014) – Jason DiSalvo, the 2011 Daytona 200 winner, and Danny Eslick, the 2009 and 2011 AMA Pro Daytona SportBike series champion, were at the top of the leaderboard on the first day of practice for the 2014 Daytona 200.
After trading the lead for the entire session, DiSalvo, riding the #40 Sportbike Track Time/Castrol/Triumph Daytona 675R, was fastest in the first practice session and for the day with a time of 1:51.016.
“Both sessions today went 100% according to our plans,” said DiSalvo. “I wanted to lead the first session and then work on some things in the second session. The bike’s handling incredibly well and hopefully we’ll be at the top of the chart tomorrow when it counts.”
The always aggressive riding Eslick took to the high banks of Daytona International Speedway during Daytona SportBike Practice #1 and posted the third fastest time of 1:52.334. During Practice #2, Eslick was also trying different strategies and posted the sixth fastest time of the day.
Eslick, riding the # 69 Riders Discount Triumph Daytona 675R, said “It’s a lot of fun riding this Triumph 675 here at Daytona where we’re doing 175 mph. The Riders Discount team is running at the top of the chart and that’s not a bad place to be. We’re looking forward to a good solid weekend and scoring some points here at Daytona.”
Bobby Fong and the #50 Latus Motors/Castrol/Triumph team posted the 10th fastest time in Practice #1 with a time of 1:54.342 while Profile Racing’s Luke Stapleford traveled from England and was 12th fastest in each session, turning a best time of 1:53.731.
The AMA Pro Daytona SportBike riders start Friday with an 8:45am EST qualifying session. The field for the 73rd running of the Daytona 200 will then be set with a 20 minute final qualifying session at 1:10pm EST. For the first time, fans will be able to watch all of the Daytona 200 action live online at the newly launched fanschoice.tv.
