Daytona Beach, FL (March 15, 2014) – Following up his third-place finish in yesterday’s AMA Pro SuperBike Race 1 at Daytona International Speedway, Cameron Beaubier notched the first win of his SuperBike career in only his second SuperBike race.
Unfortunately for Cameron’s teammate, three-time class champ Josh Hayes--who won Friday’s SuperBike Race--finished today’s race in 21st position after his #4 Yamaha YZF-R1 had a mechanical issue.
Today’s race was another close one, and Cameron took full advantage of the famous Daytona draft, as well as the crossplane-crankshaft power of his #2 Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha R1 to pull out the exciting victory.
After the win, Cameron said, “It means everything to win this first SuperBike race of my career. It was a little bit smoother race for me today, and I stayed up front and didn’t make any big mistakes. I’m really happy that my Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha crew gave me a bike that enabled me to pull ahead when I crossed the finish line.”
On the strength of his win today and podium finish yesterday, Cameron leaves Daytona with the points lead in the 2014 AMA Pro SuperBike Championship.
