DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 7, 2014) – Very few professional athletes of any kind, in any sport, can say they’ve achieved three championships within a five year period. That’s not the case for Oklahoma’s Danny Eslick. Since 2009, Eslick has proven to be one of AMA Pro Racing’s premier riders, earning two GoPro Daytona SportBike championships (2009, 2011) and a Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series title (2011).
After earning the DAYTONA 200 win from pole position last month to kick off the 2014 AMA Pro Road Racing season, Eslick’s ability to separate himself from a very impressive GoPro Daytona SportBike lineup all weekend long was proof that he’s well on his way to another championship caliber season.
“I still don’t think it has set in yet,” Eslick said on behalf of his DAYTONA 200 victory. “It’s one of the biggest motorcycle races in the industry, let alone the biggest one in the United States.”
Eslick exits Daytona with a large lead in the GoPro Daytona SportBike point standings, a position he hasn’t been accustomed to in previous championship seasons.
“To come out with the points lead is huge for me,” said Eslick. “The two GoPro Daytona SportBike championships I’ve won I’ve came from the bottom of the leaderboard following the season opener, so to jump ahead early in the points is huge for me.”
During the brief gap between Daytona and Road America, Eslick decided to take his talents overseas and test the waters in British Superbike competition. Eslick is set to compete at Brands Hatch in England next weekend (April 18-21, 2014) aboard a Riders Discount Kawasaki.
“I would really like to thank ridersdiscount.com for allowing me to come to England and race a Kawasaki in BSB,” said Eslick. “It’s a great experience and I’m very fortunate to have this kind of opportunity.”
The 2014 AMA Pro Road Racing season is set to resume shortly after Eslick returns from abroad. Round 2 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. is scheduled for May 30-June 1, 2014.
