Elkhart Lake, WI (May 31, 2014) – Yamaha YZF-R6 riders swept the podium in Saturday’s AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race at Road America, and Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammates Garrett Gerloff and JD Beach finished second and third, respectively, in an exciting race that included a red-flag-restarted three-lap sprint to the finish.

For Garrett, the drama of the restarted race almost equaled the drama that the 18-year-old Texan had experienced during final qualifying when he went down hard on his #8 R6. Garrett was banged up, but he avoided serious injury. His R6, on the other hand, didn’t fare quite as well.

After the race, Garrett said, “My Y.E.S. team had to totally rebuild the bike for me after my crash this morning, and they did a great job getting it race-ready in a very short amount of time. We weren’t able to get in any practice laps since the race followed right after qualifying, so I wasn’t sure what I had. The front-end felt a little different, so I had to adjust to the change and just concentrate on my laptimes. The restart helped me because my team was able to adjust the front suspension and get me a little more comfortable. It was a big improvement, and I’m really happy to finish second, although I wish I’d won. But, we’ve got another race tomorrow, so I’ll being racing hard for a win.”

JD commented, “On the restart, I didn’t get off the line as well as I’d hoped, and I knew, with only three laps to the checkers, that I had to put my head down and just go. It’s great to get on the podium with a third, but I want more, and we’ll try again for a win tomorrow.”

AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race 2 will start on Sunday at 2:00 PM CST.
