Elkhart Lake, WI (May 31, 2014) - Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Dane Westby made a valiant effort for the podium on Saturday at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI, but disaster struck with half a lap to go, leaving the Oklahoman with nothing to show for his valiant effort.

Westby suffered a mechanical issue on the 12th lap after moving back into second place.

The contest, ultimately won by Jake Gagne, saw Westby battle with fellow Yamalube-sponsored riders Garrett Gerloff and JD Beach until the race was stopped due to a red flag with nine laps complete. If the race had been declared over, Westby would have celebrated on the podium.

However, the race was restarted with three laps remaining, setting up a wild dash to the finish. Westby jumped back up to second but had to pull off the track in a frustrating end to his day.

“I was really pleased with the performance in the first race,” said Westby. “Gagne was on fire. Congratulations to him. I wish I could have gotten a better start, so I called my buddy Rickey Gadson tonight for some tips. I feel confident in our race. I stand behind AMA Pro but I didn’t agree with the idea to restart the race."

Dane continued, "I had worked my way up to second after the restart. We had a component problem, and I wasn’t able to complete the race – something that stings after Daytona, especially. Tomorrow will be a beautiful day, and we’ll have another shot. It’s nice to have a doubleheader race for that reason.”

Westby and the Yamalube/Westby Racing team are looking forward to race two, which begins at 2 PM local time on Sunday in Wisconsin.
