Birmingham, AL - June 22, 2014 – Yamaha YZF-R6 riders continued their dominance of the ultra-competitive AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike class, as Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Dane Westby did the double and took his second DSB win of the weekend at Barber Motorsports Park. MotoSport.com Meen Yamaha’s Jake Lewis was second, while RoadRace Factory/Yamaha’s Jake Gagne completed the R6 triumvirate at the top of the finishing order.
Throughout the 19-lap race, a pack of five riders battled it out for the win, and among them was JD Beach, rider of the #6 Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha R6. JD made several challenges for a top-three finish in the race, but a small mistake late in the contest caused him to ride off the track. He was able to rejoin the race quickly, but with only a couple of laps left before the checkered flag, JD did good work to keep his R6 upright and salvage a fifth-place finish.
JD’s teammate Garrett Gerloff suffered a wrist injury in Saturday’s DSB race, and he was unable to start the race on Sunday. The prognosis is good for the rider of the #8 Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha rider, and he is expected to return to action in the next round of the AMA Pro Road Racing season.
That next round will commence on the weekend of July 11-13 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA, as the stars of AMA Pro Racing compete on the world stage during the FIM World Superbike Championship’s only U.S. stop.
