Yamalube Rider Stays Gold With A Different Type Of Victory

Birmingham, AL (June 24, 2014) – Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Dane Westby emerged victorious again on Sunday. The Tulsa, Oklahoma, native staged an unlikely charge through the pack to earn a second win of the weekend to sweep AMA Pro Daytona SportBike at Barber Motorsports Park. Dane moved from sixth to the front, picking off one rider at a time in the Turn 14, 15, and 16 section and setting the race’s quick laps in the process. After the checkered flag, Westby found himself hoisting another trophy.

“Yesterday was a first for me when I led the race and won it that way. Today, I felt like these guys had a leg up on me,” said Westby. “I wasn’t quite as comfortable as I wanted to be early on. I was a little slow in some parts of the track but I was really good in the ‘Alabama Rollercoaster,’ as they call it. It was a real barnburner of a race, super hot out there and the conditions were tough. I put my head down and waited until my moment. I passed everyone back there in the back, just a block pass and then making it stick. I had some different lines where I could hold it until the end and earn the position. It was a really great race, and I am proud of what we were able to accomplish.”

Westby topped fellow Yamalube-sponsored rider Jake Lewis and Jake Gagne. He dedicated this win to the National Down Syndrome Society.

Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Chuck Giacchetto said, “We’re one big family on this team, but today, we have to give it up to our rider. He’s the one who made this one happen. Dane is such a unique racer with a different style than just about anyone else on and off the track. I’m actually pretty speechless. We need about 24 hours for these wins to sink in.”

Westby and Yamalube/Westby Racing will next race at Laguna Seca, July 11-13.
