Alexander & Farris struggle during third round of AMA Pro SuperSport at Barber

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (June 24, 2014) - Celtic/Hudson Valley Motorcycles Suzuki's Corey Alexander and Wyatt Farris worked hard all weekend and were not able to capitalize on earlier success. Alexander rode his #5 Celtic/HVMC Suzuki GSX-R 600 to take third place in qualifying, less than half a second off pole, with Farris qualifying in twelfth position on the grid on the #19 Celtic/HVMC Suzuki GSX-R 600. Alexander found Barber to be more demanding on his injured collarbone than Road America, and lacked some strength and endurance over the weekend. Both riders struggled to find speed and comfort at the technical Barber Motorsports Park circuit, with oppressive heat and humidity adding to the challenge. The compressed two day schedule also reduced the amount of time for the hard working Celtic/HVMC Suzuki crew to make adjustments for Alexander and Farris.
Saturday's AMA Pro SuperSport race one began with Alexander moving into second position for the opening laps, and doing battle with Hayden Gillim, Dustin Dominguez, and Kaleb de Keyrel until lap eight when Alexander tucked the front end and slid into the gravel trap. Determined to score as many points as possible, Alexander rejoined the race in seventeenth position and worked his way up to finish a respectable thirteenth with a damaged machine. Wyatt Farris also had a good start to the race, and was engaged in a fight for sixth with Richie Escalante. Farris struggled to find a passing opportunity and would eventually finish a solid seventh.
Race two on Sunday saw Alexander slip to fourth position from the opening laps, and from there he would stay in touch with the lead pack of Dominguez, Gillim, and de Keyrel for about half of the race distance, when they started to open a greater gap. Alexander managed to avoid any incidents on Sunday, and brought home valuable points, finishing fourth. Alexander now shares the points lead with Gillim - tied at 141 points a piece, with Dominguez and Farris rounding out the top spots. Farris was unable to ride with the lead group on Sunday, and a small mistake allowed several riders to move past, shuffling him to twelfth position at the checkered flag. Farris is fourth in the points after Barber, just shy of third place in the standings.
