Cypress, CA - July 9, 2014 – Yamaha’s “Fast Four” will make their annual visit to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend where they’ll shine brightly under the global spotlight of the FIM Superbike World Championship, GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round.
Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha: Hayes & Beaubier
Leading the 2014 AMA Pro Racing SuperBike Championship points standings is three-time AMA Pro SuperBike Champion Josh Hayes, who will be looking to add to his points lead by notching another win aboard his #4 Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R1.
The “Mississippi Madman” will be the first to tell you that it won’t be easy, however, as he will face stiff competition from right within his own team. Rider of the #2 R1 SuperBike, Cameron Beaubier, is having a remarkable rookie SuperBike season, and he’ll be going all out to get the win in front of a throng of family and friends from nearby Roseville who will be in attendance and enthusiastically cheering him on.
The battles between Josh and Cameron have been great drama all season long, and this weekend should prove to be no different. Sunday’s SuperBike race is scheduled for 4:20 PM PST.
Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha: Gerloff & Beach
Garrett Gerloff, rider of the #8 Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R6, is coming off a visit to Barber Motorsports Park that he’d just as soon forget. The 18-year-old Texan is back to full fitness after his Alabama experience, however, and he’s ready to take to Laguna Seca’s famed Corkscrew with renewed vigor and go for the Daytona SportBike win.
Also ready for action on the 2.238-mile, 11-turn Laguna Seca natural road course is JD Beach, the newest member of the Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha team. JD is currently in 4th place in the 2014 Daytona SportBike Championship points standings and just 20 points out of the Championship lead.
Look for JD and Garrett up front and going for the win as they do battle not only against each other, but also against a highly competitive DSB field dominated by Yamaha R6 riders. Sunday’s DSB race will go green at 1:25 PM PST.
